A call to prayer

Prayer Hubs Vision

The vision is to mobilize disciples of Jesus (Christians) to make prayer a main central activity of their life by forming prayer hubs, i.e. – small groups intentionally committed to prayer, carrying each others burdens & supporting each other in the group through prayer, praying for the needs of others, their town, city, country, missions, a people group or a nation and praying as the Holy Spirit leads the groups to pray.

We know that prayer is essential, we know that there is power in prayer, yet it is the one discipline many followers of Jesus struggle with. Time seems to be our struggle with our busy schedules.

Jesus knew it would be our struggle when he said to the disciples “Keep actively watching and praying that you may not fall into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the fleshly body is weak.” – Matthew 26 v 41

Where the vision began

A few years ago (2021) as I was reading my Bible, I experienced one of those moments when the words of scripture seemed to jump out at me as I was reading. The Holy Spirit spoke to me very clearly through the scripture found in: Matthew 21 v 13 ~ Mark 11 v 17 ~ Luke 19 v 46

He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”

Emphasizing a call for the church, the children of God back to the main activity and focus – a House of Prayer! Think about the counter part of this verse? How much has ‘The Church’ missed it?

A House of Prayer starts with each one of us personally, it speaks of a ‘Tent’ ‘Tabernacle’ ‘Temple’ where we meet with God our Father & Creator. Our bodies are after all a ‘Temple of the Holy Spirit’, it’s where our spirit and His Spirit commune. In other words, each one of us needs to understand what it means to be a House of Prayer for ourselves first, our households and then the church, our brothers & sisters in Christ Jesus.

For some, maybe many of us personally and corporately (Churches) have turned our hearts, our lives, our congregations “into a den of thieves“, we have allowed so many other things to take higher priority. May we confess and repent as the Holy Spirit gently convicts.

During Passover 2023 (a.k.a. Easter), God started speaking to me about the concept of ‘Prayer Hubs’ and I had a strong sense to action this vision as I believe the Holy Spirit revealed it to me. Just for the record, we experienced one of the most blessed and significant Passover weekends this year (2023) at the congregation we are are currently part of.

It took a few months to process the vision and to formulate the website. To be honest, there was quite a bit of struggle to get this website launched, however, here it is.

More about the vision

In my experience over many years, it has been prayer focused gatherings between friends, at church, other prayer groups we have been involved with, where we have had the most encounters and seen the most fruit and working of the Holy Spirit. One of my highlights was the opportunity to pray in the seat of parliament in Cape Town a few times before the building burned down early January 2022.

The vision is simple, get back to the basics of the Christian faith, encourage believers to intentionally form Prayer Hubs with a fresh commitment, without the ‘burden or challenge‘ to attend regular prayer meetings organized by their local congregation leaders. Is it just my observation & experience, but Prayer Meetings are not always the most well attended meetings in the Church.

There are also many Christians who cannot attend regular meetings at a church for various reasons, while there are others that have chosen not to be part of a local congregation, yet, they are our brothers and sisters in Jesus, members of Christ’s body. None should be isolated and disconnected from the body, this is not God’s will or purpose.
(Read our Lord Jesus’ prayer in John 17)

The vision of Prayer Hubs is also to connect disciples of Jesus from all walks of life together, to be as inclusive as possible, not just those closest to you, we are all part of the largest family on earth representing the greatest and most powerful Kingdom of all.

This is not going to grow and spread by the efforts of man, I am convinced that this vision is going to spread and be carried by the wind of the Holy Spirit.
