It is simple, it starts with You!
Start to pray and ask the Lord who you should be joined together with in a Prayer Hub.
You can be in more than one Prayer Hub, however be careful not to over-commit yourself.
Commit to meeting regularly in person or online, whatever works for your group.
Make use of technology to meet online if it works better for you like Google Meet, Zoom, WhatsApp etc.
Use IM Groups like WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram etc to keep in touch with each other, make use of text & voice messaging concerning arrangements, prayer requests and sharing testimonies. Try be disciplined with Groups since a lot of people are challenged with too many IM Groups.
What if you are already involved in a prayer group or intercession?
Each one to their own calling, keep going. However, you can still be an agent to share the vision and help mobilize others to form a Prayer Hub, assist and mentor them in the beginning until they are running on their own.
Some General Guidelines:
+ Prayer Hubs should comprise of at least 2 to 3 people and no more than 12.
+ Each Prayer Hub should elect a leader. (Often a natural leader or a person with a leadership gift will automatically take on this role, however, be in agreement.)
+ Prayer should start with thanksgiving and praise, not just a ‘shopping list’ of requests.
(Read Philippians 4)
+ It is probably a good idea to formulate our prayers in line with ‘The Lord’s Prayer’, which is actually the guide Jesus taught His disciples on how to pray when they asked him. (Read Matthew 6 v 9 – 13)
+ Apply the Word of God as the highest authority, rely on Scripture and pray using Scripture.
(Read 2 Timothy 3 v 16 – 17)
+ Keep a list or a journal of prayer including things prayed for and testimonies of answered prayers which is very encouraging.
+ Hold each other accountable, keep the fire burning, don’t allow any coal to burn out and get cold.
+ Reach out to people on the fringes, even those not in the fold YET. Take their prayer requests, commit to praying for the person or the family and follow up regularly with them.
+ Keep it simple and be graceful with those who struggle to pray, especially praying out loud, don’t put them off by pressurizing them.
+ Prayers in agreement, 2 or more, are extremely powerful, more powerful than praying on your own.
+ Remember that prayer is not a one way street communication, take time to listen to what God speaks to you about through the Holy Spirit, trust Him for discernment or a strategy for how to pray for certain prayer requests.
+ Often we don’t know what to pray, we don’t have enough words, rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to intercede on your behalf (Pray in the Spirit, Read Romans 8 v 26 – 27)
